Freshman Self-introduction

Good morning, teachers and my fellow students. My name is Paul. I've always been very interested in journalism, and have worked very hard at studying throughout my four years of college. Unfortunately, the more I've learned, the more I began to realize that I still don't know enough to do research by myself. I think I still need a lot more practical experience to make what I 've learned in the classroom more realistic. So I decided to pursue advanced study at the Columbia University, which I believe is the idea place for me to get what I need. I hope that I can do a good job in my pursuits.

This's my first time in America, and also my first time studying with so many foreign friends. I hope we will get along very well. My favorite hobby is basketball. I am hoping that I can find someone here that would like to play with me. Thank you.

A: A pleasure meeting you as well, the flowers are for you.

B: Thank you, they are beautiful.

Hope to Meet Again

A: I'd like to meet you again sometime.

B: That would be great. Actually, can I get your phone number, Ella? That's assuming you don't mind if I call you sometime.

A: Anytime. You can reach me at 5558929.

B: Ok, got it. I will call you sometime next week.

A: Bye, Jason.

Introduce a New Employee

A: Good morning, Tom. I'd like you to meet Alice. She is our new software engineer. Alice, Tom(此處應該是錄音者讀人名出了點錯,改為Tom) is our department manager.

B: Hello. It's a pleasure to meet you, Alice. Welcome aboard.

C:It's an honor to meet you, sir. I am looking forward to working for you.

B: From what I've heard, you are going to be excellently fit. I'll see you this afternoon to go over things.

C:That's fine with me.

Suggest 建議

A: You have a lovely house, Jack.

B: Thank you. But a number of things have been going wrong lately.

A: That's too bad. What problems are you having.

B: Oh, the whole house needs re-painting for starters. The carpet in the living room is worn out, and I'd like to put in new wall-to-wall carpeting. Last week, I had to call the plumber to fix the toilet. Anyway, all par for the course when you own a house, I guess. I think I am going to hire an interior decorator to look the place over.

A: I’ve studied home decoration as a hobby. Could I make some suggestions?

B: Go right ahead.

A: Well, I think a crystal chandelier would look great in your living room, and maybe some new drapes for the windows. Also, a grandfather clock would look great in the den. Perhaps you could buy some potted plants for the dining room

B: Well, you really do have a talent for this, Alice. Thanks for the suggestions.

A: You are welcome, Jack. Glad to be of help.
