旅遊英語翻譯示例

　1 跨文化意識與地名、景點名稱的翻譯

例如:"太湖 ",有的譯作Tai Lake,也有的譯為Taihu Lake;"泰山 "有的譯為Taishan Mountain,也有的譯為Tai Mountain" "。如峨眉山,太白山可以譯成Emei Mountain, Taibai Mountain。

譯為Garden of Humble Administrator就要比Zhuozheng Garden效果好得多。

把"中山陵 "譯為Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's Mausoleum,把"頤和園 "譯為The Summer Palace著名旅遊點"大慈恩寺 "時,看到其英譯Da Ci-en Temple.

比如蘇州的"寒山寺 "就不能譯為"Cold Hill Temple ",

既用拼音 Taihe Dian,又用意譯The Throne Hall of Supreme Harmony。處理的方法有兩種:一種是Taihe Dian用斜體字, The Throne Hall of Supreme Harmony放在後面的'括號中,即Taihe Dian (The Throne Hall of Supreme Harmony);另一種是兩者用"or "聯結, 即Taihe Dian or The Throne Hall of Supreme Harmony.

　2 文化意識與歷史人物、歷史事件名稱的翻譯

例如:清朝乾隆年間,可譯為During the reign of Emperor of Qianlong (1736-1795)of Qin Dynasty (1644-1911)。如"秦始皇 "可譯為Qin Shi-huang, the first emperor who united China in 221B.C."林則徐 "可譯為 Lin Zexu, government official of Qin Dynasty(1636-1911), and the key figure in the Opium War

"故宮耗時14年,整個工程於1420年結束"。如果這份旅遊資料針對北美市場發行,可譯為為: The construction of the Forbidden City took 14 years and was finished in 1420, 72 years before Christopher Columbus discovered the New World.

若這份材料的目標市場是歐洲,則可在1420後加上 14 years before Shakespeare was born。

浙江蘭溪濟公紀念館裏有這麼一句話: 濟公劫富濟貧,深受貧苦人民的愛戴。翻譯為:Ji Gong, Robin Hood in China, robbed the rich and helped the poor.

　3 跨文化意識與中國古詩詞及四字句的翻譯

比如 "上有天堂,下有蘇杭 ",譯為In the sky, the best is heaven, and on the earth, the best are Suzhou and Hangzhou..

再如: 路左有一巨石,石上原有蘇東坡手書 "雲外流春" 四個大字。

譯文為: To its left is another rock formerly engraved with four big Chinese characters Yun Wai Liu Chun(Beyond clouds flows spring) written by Su Dongpo (1037-1101), the most versatile poet of the Northern Song Dynasty(960-1127).

湖南張家界風景名勝區簡介中有這樣一句: 境內怪峯林立,溶洞羣布,古木參天,珍禽競翅,山泉潺潺,雲霧繚繞。: There are countless strange peaks, clusters of limestone caves, ancient trees as high as the sky, rare and precious birds, flowing mountain-springs and cloud----like mists floating above you.例如"移步換景 "、"曲徑通幽 "、"詩情畫意 "、"九天飛瀑 "可分別譯為: a different view with every step(而不是"對號入座 "式的翻譯為: " take a step and the scenery will change.") a winding path leading to a secluded place, poetic lyricism and picturesque concept .但"九天飛瀑 "只需譯作heavenly fall就可以了。

形容商品的"琳琅滿目 ",可意譯為 a supreme collection of beautiful things,但是某種情況下,可把它翻譯為 wide choice。

　4 跨文化意識與文化信息的處理旅遊

例如我國最大的傳統節日"春節 ",可以解釋性地譯為Spring Festival(a three-day celebration of the traditional Chinese New Year which falls in January or Febuary according to cycles in the Chinese lunar calendar)。

再看下面一例:

作為炎黃子孫,還可以去拜謁離西安不遠的黃帝陵。

譯文: If you are Chinese descent, you may pay tribute to the tomb of Huangdi (Yellow Emperor), first Chinese emperor.

因而將"炎黃子孫 "譯為 the descents of Yan Di and Huang Di (All the Chinese people are supposed to be descents of Huang Di and Yan Di, two chiefs of famous ancient tribes in the Huanghe River Valley.)
