Why I Chose to Attend College?

As my high school years were drawing to a close, I turned over and over again in my mind the question of whether I should go to college。 At times I did have some doubts。 After careful consideration, however, I finally decided it was worthwhile to attend college。

Firstly, because I was always hungry for knowledge and keen on learning。 While in high school, I became more and more interested in such subjects as math, physics, and chemistry。 I longed to explore much further into those areas。

Secondly, because I knew a college education would provide me with opportunities for all round development。 I would play in musical groups, take part in sports, and join campus organizations。 Involvement in various kinds of activities could help make me a well rounded person。

Finally, I was aware that in today's world many professions require years of specialized trainning。 Without a college education, it would be difficult for me to obtain a desirable position。

Now I'm here at college and I seem to have more reasons to congratulate myself on my right decision。

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when starting his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in big cities, which mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation。

But some other graduates intend to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier。

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

Nowadays, more and more university graduates complain that graduation does not equate to employment. They experience great difficulties finding satisfactory jobs. What is the cause of this phenomenon

In my opinion, there are four causes:

First, graduates lack experience. They spend most of their time at school studying academic subjects and lack relevant job training. Only after graduation do they realize it’s hard to find jobs.

Second, competition among graduates grows more bitter and more bitter and bitter. The supply of university graduates exceeds social demand. This results in a decreased chance for any individual graduate to find a job.

Third, some students don’t study hard. Some of them skip classes just because they have no interest in certain subjects. Some play computer games or pursue other interests. Some sleep in class or in the library. Then they leave the sheltered environment of the university campus, to discover they don’t have adequate knowledge to apply for many positions, which makes them feel lost and frustrated.

Finally, some graduates are conceited. They lack experience but ask for a high salary, which is impractical.

So, university students should try their best to change this situation. When they are in school, they should make the most of their time and put their heart into their studies. They can hold part-time jobs in their spare time to accumulate relevant work experience. They should take part in some social activities and provide themselves with special training, if possible. When they graduate and apply for jobs, they should attach more importance to accumulating experience than to their starting salary.

On University Students’ Pressure in Finding Jobs

About a decade ago, university students could find satisfactory and enviable jobs after their graduation. But now, things are different. Today's university students usually have much pressure in finding fairly good jobs. They always say disappointedly that graduation means joblessness. Why nowadays university students have so much pressure in finding jobs?

In my opinion, this kind of pressure is mainly caused by three reasons. Firstly, the government is enrolling more and more university students year by year. And the growth of the students' number has surpassed that of the need of the society. So, when so many students graduate at a time, the chance of finding jobs becomes tiny. Secondly, today's university students, most of them are the "only-child", who are more mentally frail. Since they are indulged greatly at home and haven't been trained to do things on their own, once it is their turn to go out of the campus and find jobs by themselves and decide what kind of jobs to choose, they feel bewildered and don't know what to do. If their first try fails, they will be frustrated and think that it is really hard to find jobs. Thirdly, some university students are not qualified for good and challenging jobs. After entering the university, they don't study as hard as they did in high schools. They begin to sleep during the class or even be absent for classes. Some are addicted to computer games or Jin Yong's novels, or step into the two-person-world too early. Because these things have taken up so much of their time and energy, their study is neglected. After four years of university life, they haven't gained the knowledge those fairly good jobs or certain positions require.

opportunities [ptjunt] n.

development [dvlpmnt] n.

competitive [kmpttv] adj.

但各類便條必須包括以下幾個基本要素:1.Date(便條日期);2.Salutation(稱呼);3.Body(正文);4.Signature(署名)

Although nothing is like home, living in a parent-free environment can be one of the most fun things in your college life. In spite of its obvious drawbacks, staying away from home contributes to the full university experience that money can buy. Part of any student's decision on where to live is a financial one; however, money being not the issue, it is better for you to go for a new experience, if only for fun. Dorm life is real fun, even more so when your room is situated in the university's residence hall. To begin with, living in a dorm is a sure opportunity to meet people, so it is hard to feel lonely. For freshmen who are prone to 'homesickness', the companionship found there can make the transition away from home easier. Further, dorm life is a crash course in interpersonal skills because you need to learn how to get along with your roommates as well as people in your hallway.

Needless to say, it is more convenient to live on campus since you can walk everywhere you need to go without the trouble of commuting. Is it not that that kind of campus life which you have been waiting for? Nevertheless, living away from home is sometimes not as interesting as expected. Apart from financial considerations, there are other factors to consider. For one thing, roommate conflict could sound like a potential nightmare. Chances are that some roommates could be worse than others, making your dorm life somewhat difficult, indeed. For another, constant companionship implies lack of privacy which you usually enjoy at home. Moreover, even when you like to meet people, it could so happen that they are not all going to be people you want to meet. Altogether, money permitted, college life could not possibly be fun enough without the experience of living away from home. Such experience, even though not entirely agreeable, may be of use to a student soon to become a mature member of the community. In fact, if dorm life appears to you like freedom from parental control, you would soon realize that it is fun to be free, at least for a while.

That day, we graduated, that day we left his alma mater, that day will always bear in our hearts.

Less than three months, it is necessary to leave this warm and warm alma mater, the former always thought there was a long time to leave his alma mater, but an instant, he would leave.

“The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for circumstance they want, and if they cannot find them, make them.” Such is the remark made by Bernard Shaw, a great writer. This view has been shared now by more and more people. I’m very glad to receive college education and i reached the conclusion that i have come to college not for one single reason, but for many.

First, university is such an ideal place to broaden my horizon and make more friends. The youth of 21stcentury should be open-minded, instead of being a person with a tunnel vision. I’m ready to meet more challenges and make more friends during the four years.

Second, I’m unwilling to step into the society straight after high school. I’m afraid I’m not fully prepared for the working environment: complicated interpersonal problems, jockeying for position, a tremendous amount of pressure and etc. I have to face various kinds of major conflicts as well as trivial things. I seem to be over-pessimistic, but that actually accounts for part of my choice.

Finally, thanks to the all-out support from my parents, i am able to further my study in university. I’ll spare no efforts to live up to their expectation on me to be a well-trained and well-rounded person.

I will learn experience and challenge myself in my college life and be an outstanding person of future.
