學習用英語寫作是培養英語思維能力的重要途徑之一，有了一定的英語思維能力，英語學習就能產生一個相應的飛躍。因此，在高中階段指導、培養學生寫英語作文是不容等閒視之的。

用英語解釋生詞，為學生打好寫作基礎。教師應創造語言環境，通過耳濡目染、潛移默化，培養用英語思維的習慣。在教每課的單詞和詞組時，要儘量用學生學過的單詞、詞組進行解釋。剛開始時，可由教師用英語解釋生詞，後來可讓學生根據漢語釋意，用自己學過的單詞、詞組解釋。這樣，經過一段時間的訓練，學生的英語思維能力就會有所提高，為英語寫作打下較好的基礎。在作文時，如果不知道某個東西的英語表達方式而又無詞典可查，這時學生就會用其釋義來代替，如用"a person who makes clothes"來代替"a tailor"， 這雖不完全符合英語語言習慣，但對初學寫作的高中生來説還是值得鼓勵的。

通過縮寫和改寫課文，培養學生的概括能力、想象能力。縮寫課文會激勵學生去認真鑽研課文內容，有助於加深學生對課文的理解，提高學生歸納總結和進行簡要表達的能力。縮寫課文允許改動原意，不允許刪去主要內容。縮寫課文一般應該用自己的話來寫，不能只停留在拼湊原文的詞句上，也不要逐句、逐段照原文去改寫。這些均通過示例讓學生明白和掌握，並在實踐中讓他們仔細加以體會。改寫課文可以培養學生舉一反三的語言表達能力，熟練掌握英語表達方法，促使學生去鑽研、去思考，調動學習的積極性，學生把學過的知識運用到實際中去，這對於提高英語水平大有裨益。改寫，除了我們通常所説的句子、段落的釋義之外，還包括用其他體裁改寫整篇課文。

如在學習了"The Lost Necklace"（《項鍊》）、"Tailor's Shop"（《百萬英鎊》）等課文後，我引導學生把這些課文進行改寫，以英語劇的.形式表演出來，這就要求學生不僅要讀這兩個故事的原文或改寫本，更要求他們把已學過的知識運用到實際中，圍繞劇情，根據角色的身份、職業特點、社會文化背景等進行增加或刪改，提高了他們運用語言的能力。

此外，鍛鍊學生運用其它體裁改寫整篇文章。如高二"A Famous Detective"寫著名偵探福爾摩斯的故事是以第三人稱敍述的，故事中的人物有大偵探福爾摩斯、助手華生、小姐、叔叔等。我讓學生髮揮各自的優勢，用各種體裁和形式，對原文進行改寫。有的改寫成了劇本，我就組織幾個學生分角色表演；有的學生用第一人稱來敍事，以故事中的某一個角色為"我"，來重新構造故事；還有的發揮充分的想象，將"毒蛇"擬人化，來敍述故事等等。學生們興意昂然，自由發揮，身臨其境，創造情景，全班有多一半的同學參加了有表情的表演、朗誦等課堂展示活動，不僅鍛鍊了他們的想象能力，也鍛鍊了學生們的寫作能力。

以多題材、多形式的自由作文訓練，加強了意念功能的培養。經過一段時間的縮寫和改寫的筆頭訓練之後，學生對寫作有了一定的基礎和興趣，就可以放手讓他們進行多種題材的自由作文訓練，使學生在自由表達思想和內心感受中，加強意念功能培養。 練習寫週記日記是培養學生英語自由寫作能力的第一步。寫週記日記 ，學生不受內容和經驗的限制，可就熟悉的題材，充分發揮自己的想象力，自由表達。 看圖作文新穎活潑 ，能激發學生英語寫作的積極性。可以用流傳較廣的傳説、故事作圖，讓學生寫記敍文。比如畫幾幅老鼠商議給貓掛鈴鐺的圖，讓學生以"The cat and the bell"作文。也可畫一幅漫畫，讓學生寫簡易議論文。如畫一幅三人向三個方向劃一條小船，讓學生寫出情景加以評論，並命題。 作文可由教師統一命題，也可由學生自由命題。命題作文要注意先易後難，開始讓學生寫一些自己熟悉、易於表達的題材。如："Our School"、 "My Family"、"A Letter To Somebody"、"A Repectable Teacher"、"Life In Summer Vacation"等。在此基礎上，提高一步，寫一些較難的題目，如:My Ideal, Money And Happiness 等。剛開始練習命題作文寫作時，可讓學生課外完成，規定交作文日期即可。經過一段時間後，可要求他們在課堂上完成，藉以培養他們的思考能力，提高快速寫作的能力。

When I am making mistakes, my parents will never be angry with me. I am so thankful to them for they are so tolerant with me.

Conserving Water Resource

Water is indispensable to our life and the development of national economy. It is often described as the source of all living things and the lifeblood of agriculture and industry. Without it, nothing could grow and out world would become a terrible desert.

The world we live in is now faced with a severe shortage of fresh water. According to some official figures, more than 1,700 million people in the world don't have enough clear water to drink and over 25 thousand people die of water related diseases daily.

So, all of us should actively b save water. It's our obligation for the benefit of the future generations.
