It was Mondy. Mrs Smith’s dog was hungry, but there was not any meat in the house.

Considering that there was no better way. Holding the piece of paper in its mouth, the dog ran to the butcher’s. It gave the paper to the butcher. The butcher read it carefully, recognized that it was really the lady’s handwriting and soon did it as he was asked to. The dog was very happy, and ate the meat up at once.

At noon, the dog came to the shop again. It gave the butcher a piece of paper again. After reading it, he gave it half a pound of meat once more.

The next day, the dog came again exactly at noon. And as usual, it brought a piece of paper in the mouth. This time, the butcher did not take a look at paper, and gave the dog its meat, for he had regarded the dog as one of his customers (* people who buy something from a shop).

But, the dog came again at four o’clock. And the same thing happened once again. To the butcher’s more surprise, it came for the third time at six o’clock, and brought with it a third piece of paper. The butcher felt a bit puzzled. He said to himself, “This is a small dog. Why does Mrs Smith give it so much meat to eat today?”

Looking at the piece of paper, he found that there were not any words on it!

A Faithful(忠實的) Dog

More than seven hundred years ago, the Prince of Wales had a very big and brave dog called Gelert.

One day the Prince wanted to go hunting(打獵) with his men. He told his dog to stay at home and look after his baby son. The baby was in a wooden cradle(搖籃), which was like a small bed.

When the Prince came back from hunting, Gelert ran out to meet his master. He wagged(搖) his tail(尾巴) and jumped up to put his paws( 手爪 )on the Prince's chest. Then the Prince saw the blood(血) on Gelert's jaws(顎) and head.

"What have you done?" the Prince said. He rushed into his house and looked for his baby son. The cradle was lying on its side on the floor. The clothes were torn and there was blood on them.

"So you have killed my son?" the Prince said angrily. "You unfaithful dog!" He took out his sword(劍) and killed the dog. Just as Gelert was dying, he managed(設法) to bark. Then the Prince heard a baby call to the dog.

The Prince ran out of the house and saw his son lying on the ground unhurt(沒受傷). Near him was a dead wolf. Then the Prince knew that Gelert had defended(保衞) the baby and killed the wolf.

The Prince ran back into the house but he was too late. Gelert was dead. The Prince was very sad indeed. Tears ran down his face when he realized 'he had killed his faithful friend. The Prince carried the body of his brave dog to the top of a mountain and buried(埋葬) him there. After this, the Prince never smiled again. Every morning at dawn, he walked up the mountain and stood by the dog's grave for a few minutes.

If you go to Mount Snowdon in Wales, people will show you where Gelert is buried. There is a sign by his grave. It reminds people of a brave and faithful dog.

學前英語:聽力大於閲讀 悦讀大於閲讀

很多媽媽都在問3-6歲幼兒如何學好英語?媽媽們很關心幼兒英語學習。 孩子3-6歲,是幼兒英語學習的關鍵期。孩子越小就越容易自然而然的學會一種語言,年紀的增長會給學習者掌握正確的口音和語法的母語式運用增添難度。因此,讓孩子從小就學習英語,不僅能幫助他們輕鬆完成學校的英語課程,還能培養他們學習英語的興趣。

幼兒英語學習聽力大於閲讀

3-6 歲的幼兒對聲音的敏感度較高,且右腦控制發音器官的能力較強,聲帶、舌脣等運動神經的調節也具有很大的可塑性。所以幼兒英語學習主要是從聽力入手。換言之,英語學習過程,圍繞“耳朵聽”展開。舉個例子,3-6 歲幼兒可以一邊看,一邊聽 s 的書,比如《s’s ABC》、《Fox in socks》、《One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish 》、《The Foot Book》等等。媽媽可以利用零碎時間,帶孩子多聽聽這些音頻。

3-6 歲的幼兒,也不一定非要購買國外的繪本。國內的出版社,也引進了很多適合小孩子的英語讀物,比如《典範英語》系列、《麗聲拼讀會》系列,這些系列讀物,既是圖文並茂,又有音頻朗讀,非常適合親子共讀。當然,媽媽也可以親自去新華書店挑選。我個人建議,媽媽給六歲以下孩子挑選英語讀物的時候,儘量購買配有原聲 CD 的讀物,因為孩子的 “聽”比“讀”更重要。

幼兒英語學習悦讀大於閲讀

帶着 3-6 歲孩子讀英文原版繪本,媽媽應該帶着“悦讀”的心態,而不是“閲讀”的心態。媽媽可以和孩子一起翻看繪本,媽媽用中文,用生動誇張的語氣語調,給孩子描述畫面內容。媽媽可以用中文,把繪本里的英文句子,解釋給孩子聽。媽媽先用中文解釋英文,再把英文給孩子念一遍。等孩子熟悉了繪本里的故事,媽媽就可以拿出繪本的配套音頻,播放給孩子聽。

家長:我孩子的英語該怎麼辦

提到孩子的英語學習,想必讓當下多數的爸爸媽媽們愁大了頭。看着別人的孩子英語成績突飛猛進,對話流利標準,而自己的孩子成績卻一路標紅,口語磕磕巴巴,甚至談“英”色變,產生對英語的逆反情緒,家長們對於孩子英語提高的期望全寫在一張張焦慮的臉上。無論是苦口勸説還是暴力相向,家長們都無法讓孩子真正走上英語學習的正軌。面對如此窘境,大多數家長髮出了內心的吶喊:“我孩子的英語該怎麼辦?!”

或許此言一出,立時就會被無數更強烈的聲音所淹沒。“一年學會拼讀所有英語文章”、“英語速記法,短期快速提高”、“英語是玩出來的”等各型各色的培訓機構廣告語又讓家長無所適從。而充滿誘惑、看似科學的輔導課程在課程顧問巧舌如簧的渲染下又讓家長怦然心動,似乎高額的培訓費就能無條件換取孩子英語成績的提高。而不幸的是,絕大多數求醫問卜的家長屢屢失望而歸。

實際上,就這個問題,北外教育專家,資深教學顧問曹文教授已經給出了答案。曹文教授做客北京市海淀區中關村第三國小時,就如何改變青少年英語現狀面對上千名學生家長,做了一場別開生面的互動講座。在這場名為“有規劃才有未來”的講座中,曹文教授首先提出了幾個大部分家長沒有深入想過,很多培訓機構無法給出答案的問題——“英語要不要學”、“英語學什麼”、“英語怎麼學”。這些問題看似簡單,卻直指英語學習的根源。這對於只關心孩子英語成績的家長來説是個不小的吸引力。

在很多對英語學習缺乏瞭解的家長看來,孩子的英語體系已經在義務教育中建立起來,現在學生不佳的學習成績多是由於孩子不努力或老師師資水平等問題造成,因此就利用假期或業餘時間到處給孩子找各種補習班、強化班。在曹文教授看來,這樣的.培訓班只能掩蓋孩子英語問題中所襯托出的問題。如沒有英語興趣就用動畫片的形式來吸引孩子,卻沒有找到孩子不喜歡英語的根結在何處,典型的“頭疼醫頭,腳疼醫腳”。在講座中曹文教授提到,有一位母親,從孩子幼兒園起就不斷送他上各種各樣的英語培訓班,一會兒劍橋,一會兒新概念,一會兒朗文,一會兒浸泡,現在孩子上國小五年級了,忽然又聽説小升中要某某英語證書,於是有將孩子送到北外青少英語,告訴曹文教授孩子只有四個月的學習時間,而孩子必須要考取這個證書。 “由於孩子的英語學習沒有從一開始就遵循一個系統的學習體系,所學內容有重複,有遺漏,且多是零零碎碎,所以很難在這麼短的時間內去應對一個系統性很強的考試。而如果硬壓,只會讓孩子逐漸失去學習英語的興趣和自信”,曹文教授這樣説道。

因此,想真正拯救孩子的英語學習,就必須按照系統的學習方式進行,同時又要結合學生自身實際情況。在講座中,曹文教授將目前的孩子分為三種類型,一是特優型,二是穩健型,三是優秀型。其中特優型學生是指語言天賦極高的“天才兒童”和有國外生活經驗的“海歸兒童”,這樣的孩子的英語水平遠在國內同齡人水平之上;而穩健型的孩子多是完全按照義務教育標準進行,到了三、四年級甚至更晚才開始接觸英語,並以通過期末考試為目的,家長也沒有意識到孩子英語學習的重要性;而目前絕大多數的孩子屬於優秀型,在學齡前或剛剛入學就開始接觸英語,但是學習不繫統,就如同上文提到的學生案例,有病亂投醫。所以,在這些問題出現以前,家長就應根據孩子的長遠目標規劃成長路線,否則只能是“低頭看腳下,抬頭撞南牆”。
