YANG Nan, 17, was happy to move to her new home in a northern area of Beijing. She was told that her neighborhood used to be farmland planted with vegetables, corn and looking at the new road, beautiful park and supermarkets, Yang couldn't see any sign that food was once grown there.

Yang is not alone. In recent years, many Chinese people have moved into new houses in country areas. Tall buildings have been built everywhere in the suburbs. The crops and fruit trees are no more. But these changes have caused problems too, warns Gan Zang chun, an official (官員) at the Ministry of Land and Resources (國土資源部).

"Chinese cities are growing fast. This has made the area for farmland much smaller. This is really bad for the country's ability to grow food, not to mention the lives of farmers," said Gan last Monday.

The country needs farmland to grow food for the people of China. But the recent rise in house prices has made selling land a good business. A lot of land has been used to build new houses for sale.

Pollution, which makes land useless, is another reason for the big drop in China's farmland. About 2.67 million square kilometers of land in China have been polluted and turned into desert.

The government wants China to have at least 120 million hectares (公頃) of farmland. But there are only about 121.8 million hectares left. "It will be really difficult to reach the goal", Gan said. He said that the government would fight illegal (非法的) land use and stop farmland from becoming desert.

不可數名詞一般沒有複數形式,表示數量時要藉助於a piece of, a glass of, a cup of等短語,如two pieces of paper.

有兩種表示形式:一種是's所有格,常表示有生命的事物,如Ann's book; 另一種是of所有格,常表示無生命的事物, 如the door of the room.。

注意:

1:The doctor saved three _____ lives yesterday..

dren's B. children' C. child D. child's

答案:A

2:-Would you like some drinks,boys ? -Yes ,__________, please.

oranges boxes of oranges C. some cakes boxes of orange

解析:根據題意“你們想喝點飲料嗎?”,選項應該為飲料,故排除C;而在作為桔汁來講的時候,是不可數名詞,沒有複數,故排除A和B;

Do you know how to play a game called “Musical Chairs”? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument, if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.

Put the chairs in a row. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one row with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.

The game is easy. When the music starts, the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.

The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the players try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.
