你用的是台式機還是筆記本？哦，不。這個問題已經有點過時了。現在很多人問的是：“你買的是什麼上網本？”對，那些厚重的，看似專業IT的筆記本已經不流行了。眼下，輕便、小巧又價廉的netbook才是新寵呢。

Netbooks (also called mini notebooks or subnotebooks) are a rapidly evolving category of small, light and inexpensive laptop computers suited for general computing and accessing web-based applications.

上網本（netbook，也叫mini notebook或subnotebook）是一種正在快速發展的小型、輕便且價格較低的筆記本電腦，主要用於普通運算以及網絡應用。

At their inception in late 2007 — as smaller notebooks optimized for low weight and low cost— netbooks omitted key features (e.g., the optical drive), featured smaller screens and keyboards, and offered reduced specification and computing power.

在2007年剛推出的'時候，上網本被定位為低重量、低成本的小型筆記本電腦，製作時省去了光驅等重要部件，屏幕和鍵盤也相應縮小，同時在規格和運算能力上也有所降低。

In the short period since their appearance, netbooks have grown in size and features. By mid 2009, the specs are so similar that the average shopper would likely be confused as to why one is better than the other.

面世後不久，上網本已經在尺寸和特性上有了很大改進。到2009年中期的時候，上網本的規格已經和普通筆記本電腦很相近，普通消費者可能都無法辨別差異。
